ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Drawn to the practice of icon-writing after seeing a documentary about iconography on Mount Athos thirty years ago, Chantal Heinegg began a circuitous but determined journey. Icons have been used for millennia as objects for religious instruction, meditation, and devotion; what especially touched her is the sense of presence that they invoke. The purpose of these pages is to explore with the reader the process of iconography and the work of attention which can help transform the image into a window to another dimension.
